Intimate Stranger
Artist Statement
Intimate Stranger is a monologue (with 30 pairs of images and texts) that I produced for the first issue of the "New Normal Topics Thoughts". This issue is the short edition (artist book) of 10 books by the curator and art historian Patricio Álvarez Aragón. It investigates the new normality's themes and how they affect current artistic production.
The monologue, Intimate Stranger, represents the fragments of our intimate life that are full of contradictions in the new normal of the post-pandemic. Many of us begin to question the essence of life. We examine who we are, what we want to be, and what we expect for the future.
These inquiries lead us to reevaluate ourselves. Hence we no longer utilise the same manner to comprehend who we are. The new intimate self becomes a stranger eventually.
Though this alien monologue is not the end, it symbolises a new journey we must interrogate and encounter within the new normal.
